After months of speculation, it seems someone has finally solved the mystery that surrounds Brad Bird’s Tomorrowland project. Beware of SPOILERS!
According to Hitfix writer Drew McWeeny, the movie sounds like a cross between The Wizard of Oz and The Neverending Story.
Here is an alleged logline from Disney, that McWeeny has been able to get his hands on:
A teenage girl, a genius middle-aged man (who was kicked out of Tomorrowland) and a pre-pubescent girl robot attempt to get to and unravel what happened to Tomorrowland, which exists in an alternative dimension, in order to save Earth.
Previously, McWeeny successfully revealed the plot to monster movie Cloverfield, so there is no doubting that this information comes from a reputable source.
If this premise is indeed true, then we can also assume that George Clooney will play Frank, who is the middle-aged man. We also know that Hugh Laurie has been cast as the Clooney’s antagonist and will almost certainly be the reason behind his character’s expulsion from Tomorrowland.
Despite Disney conducting a very clever, and very secretive marketing campaign, that is not the real reason for the excitement surrounding the project.
The fact is Brad Bird is finally making a live action family film, after his impressive stint at Pixar. Now, after years of fantastic animated features, Hollywood is crying out for a quality live action family movie.
Hopefully, The Incredibles director Bird can deliver exactly that. In fact, this optimism is not misplaced. Bird’s first live feature was the fantastic Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.
Also, Disney are backing the project wholeheartedly, employing the hottest writer in Hollywood at the moment, Damon Lindelof (Lost, Prometheus) to co-pen the script with newcomer Jeff Jensen.
Tomorrowland is still in pre-production, ahead of its scheduled December 19th, 2014 release date.
