If anybody was doubting Robert Rodriguez casting decisions for Machete Kills, they now seem so crazy, that the film may actually work.
The news that the professionally ridiculous Lady Gaga will play a part in the film, alongside Charlie Sheen and Mel Gibson, means that this is shaping up to be the cast equivalent of the dirty dozen.
But, while pop star Gaga (real name Stefani Germanotta) has a reputation as an attention-seeking diva, director Rodriguez was delighted with her performance
He said: “I just finished working with Lady Gaga on Machete Kills, she kicked SO MUCH ASS! Holy Smokes. Blown away!” I know one thing: It sure doesn’t hurt adding more attractive females to an already beautiful cast.”
Of course, when Rodriguez mentioned the beautiful cast members, he was certainly not referring to Mel Gibson, who after years of spending too much time in his own company, has become a grizzled, haggard version of his former self. Indeed, Gibson was a surprise, and somewhat controversial choice to play the role of villainous drug barren, due to his full time addiction to rage, prejudice and religious fanaticism.
Couple that with Charlie Sheen playing the U.S. President, and you’ve got yourself one hell of a cast rap sheet. Of course, in Sheen’s defence he has only ever abused TV execs, hookers, his ex-spouses and himself, while bringing shame upon his fake family name. But aside from that his reputation is still pretty solid.
The film, which is a sequel to the 2010 grindhouse hit Machete, will see the title character Danny Trejo hired by President Sheen to take down overlord Gibson who is threatening the U.S. with nuclear weapons.
Other cast members include Michelle Rodriguez (worse driver than Gibson), Vanessa Hudgens (pornographer) and Jessica Alba (too hot to ever take seriously). Machete Kills is due for release next year.
