Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan set for Christmas 2013

By Lucas Shaw - NEW YORK (TheWrap.com) - Paramount has scheduled “Jack Ryan,” its latest cinematic take on the Tom Clancy character, for Christmas Day 2013, according to an individual with knowledge of the studio’s plans.

The film stars Chris Pine as Ryan, a character the studio has been trying to resurrect for some time.Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck have all played the role, Affleck last inhabiting him in “The Sum of All Fears.”

Kenneth Branagh is directing the film, which David Koep was hired to redraft.

The studio, which is co-financing the film with David Ellison’s Skydance Productions, has settled on the lucrative holiday period as the time to release it.

So far, only Universal’s oft-delayed “47 Ronin” and Sony’s “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” are slated for the same day, though Warner Bros.’ second ”The Hobbit” film will bow earlier that month.

Paramount hopes to turn Clancy’s work into a multi-faceted franchise, as it is also planning an adaptation of his 1993 novel “Without Remorse.”

“Jack Ryan” will also star Keira Knightley, Kevin Costner and Branagh.
