Ben Affleck’s decision to decline the Justice League film, is a smart move for himself and Warner Bros.
The task of making a film on this scale, with so many different variables involved, would not be conducive to Affleck’s skill set. And, if the movie had been a disaster then it would have sent his career back 10 years .
Now Warner Bros. are making a move for siblings Andy and Lana Wachowski, who are much more adept at pulling off big, complex spectacles.
Indeed, after completing the epic Martix trilogy, which admittedly two-thirds of which were unwatchable, the Wachowskis went to make the underrated Speed Racer, V for Vendetta and the ambitious Cloud Atlas (which will be released on October 24th).
And, according to Moviehole, the studio are delighted with what they have seen with Cloud Atlas and now want the duo to work their magic on DC Comics most challenging subject matter.
The Justice League takes the world’s of Batman and Superman, not to mention many other superhero characters, and makes them into one. (Editor’s note: At one point, rumors were pointing to the Wachowskis directing DC Comics’ Plastic Man. Seriously.)
After the success of Marvel’s The Avengers, which was directed by Joss Wheldon, Warners want to take their comic book assets and create a rival franchise that could potentially gross billions of dollars.
Gangster Squad writer Will Beall is currently working on the script, which will attempt to incorporate every character strand into the one narrative. The Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan will not be involved in the project, despite the fact that Warners would pay him a small fortune to do so. Nolan has not only successfully rejuvenated the Batman franchise for the studio, but produced and co-wrote next summer’s Man of Steel.
