Fresh from his biggest ever commercial success, Woody Allen’s latest feature is yet another European jaunt.
The trailer of To Rome with Love shows the usual mix of big screen talent philosophising about life, love and romance.
Allen himself appears on film for the first time since Scoop, which was 6-years-ago.
Despite, the obvious repetition in romantic themes, Woody has never been afraid to play around with different styles.
This time he opts for 4-separate stories, all of course, taking place in one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
The New York film maker has had mixed success with his European films, with triumphs such as Vicky Christina Barcelona and Match Point, balanced with failures such as Cassandra’s Dream and the aforementioned Scoop.
However, following the startling achievement of Midnight in Paris, which not only won Allen his 4th Oscar, but grossed $148-million at the box-office, hopes are high for his latest venture.
The cast includes the comic talents of Alec Baldwin, Roberto Benigni and Penelope Cruz. As well, as the suitably awkward Jesse Eisenberg who becomes enamoured with the sexually confident Ellen Page.
Allen makes his big screen return alongside Judy Davis (appearing in her 5th Woody film) as a married couple visiting their daughter and their future son-in-law.
Last month, producer Letty Aronson revealed that Allen’s next project will be set in Copenhagen, which seems fitting as some of the best European cinema of the last two decades has taken place in Denmark.
The title of the film and the cast have yet to be announced, however, it has been suggested that the film will be mix of US and Danish talent.
Mads Mickellsen is not only Denmark’s biggest star, but he also possesses brilliant comic timing which he demonstrated in the excellent Adam’s Apple. Can he expect a call from Woody? We’ll just have to wait and see.
