Tom Cruise has taken a public battering over the years with regards to his personal life and beliefs.
However, his career has never really wavered commercially. Quite an achievement when you consider it spans over 3 decades.
Because of his fascination with aliens and fondness for living an illuminati funded secret life that involves being rich and weird- people often forget that the guy is talented.
Since jumping on ‘that couch‘ one of the best career moves Tom has made was appearing in Tropic Thunder, where he was able to showcase his comedic talents.
Yes, donning a fat suit and playing a ball-busting movie mogul really dispelled the myth that Cruise is a humourless weirdo, who only laughs to hide his web of deceit.
And, it looks like the Top Gun star has learned from that experience as this summer he is appearing in Rock of Ages, a comedy adapted from the hit Broadway musical by Tropic Thunder’s Justin Theroux.
Cruise again will only be appearing in a supporting role as mega star rocker Stacee Jaxx and judging from the trailer it looks like it will be another show stealer.
Director by Adam Shankman, who directed a dragged up John Travolta in Hairspray, was impressed with Cruise’s professionalism on set.
He said: “He was just so committed to the part, between the voice classes, studying and researching the period.
“He’s just been great to work with.”
Of course, Tom has often featured in films that have had comedic elements, such as; Risky Business, Rain Man, Magnolia and Jerry Maguire. And, let’s face it Top Gun was hilarious, just not intentionally.
Assuming he pulls off the role of ageing rock god, Cruise will then, rather interestingly, follow that with cop drama One Shot, which is written and directed by Way of the Gun’s Christopher McQuarrie.
However, just as we thought Cruise was on the path to public redemption, he is attached to not one, but two, alien based sci-fi movies. We will have to wait and see if his strictly platonic love for aliens will further his career.
